Stay Off the Path of the Wicked

March 9, 2018

Enter not in the path of the wicked.  Turn from it and pass on.

(Proverbs 4:14-15)

I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. (Romans 12:1-2)

Worldly music is a type of worldly path.  Don’t listen to worldly music because it is a strategy that the enemy uses to open your mind (thoughts) to the worldly way.  If you begin to listen to it, you’ll soon be singing it, and dancing to it.  For example, the group, Earth Wind & Fire sings Rhythm & Blues (R&B) songs with positive messages, but their music does not glorify God.  Before, accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, they were my favorite music group.  During college, I spent $25 to see them in concert.  However, now that I’m saved, I no longer listen to their music or see them in concerts.

I remember attending a church in Hyattsville, Maryland and the church promoted rap music.  Although spiritual words may be put to the music it still caries a worldly vibe and effect, which creates tainted music.  The tainted music looses its effectiveness in ministering purity and holiness to those who hear it because there is a worldly aspect or component in the music.  When one incorporates Rap, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, Country, and/or Blues music in a Christian church setting, you are patterning yourself and those that follow you, after worldly customs, which does not glorify and please God.

What You Do Does not Define Who You Are

If you are a Lawyer, Police Officer, Doctor, or Accountant, Cosmetologist, Security Officer, News Reporter, or Naturalist, your occupation does not define who you are, but who you are in Christ.  As a believer in Jesus Christ (Word of God), you have become a new person pursuant to II Corinthians 5:17.    Moreover, whether you have a Bachelors of Arts Degree, Bachelors of Science, or PhD., does not define you.  It does not define your identity.

Once you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you become a child of God, and God becomes your Spiritual Father.  Who God says you are defines your identity, not your friends, your co-workers, or your neighbors.  You become an Ambassador (representative) for Jesus Christ.  Therefore, you must become Christ-like.  That is, you must desire and take steps necessary to become like Jesus Christ in character (mind, emotions, and actions) by reading, studying, and meditating on the Word of God.  In doing, so you become who God says you are.  This builds your self-esteem.  But you must do the following:

I.       Recognize Who You Are in Chris

Child of God and saved from eternal death in hell.  (Romans 10:9; 8:16-17)

You are heir of God, like Jesus is an heir.  As an heir, Jesus Christ received eternal life in God’s presence; grace and mercy; divine protection; and God’s glory.  But just as Jesus Christ suffered on the cross, we will suffer through trials and tribulations, which may be in the form of false accusations, persecution, and grief).   However, these trials and tribulations are designed to strengthen us by totally trusting, depending, and relying on God – the source of our strength.  These trials/tribulations also help to build our confidence in God, knowing that He will surely deliver us.

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles.” (Psalm 34:17)

“Out of my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free and in a large place.” (Psalm 118:5)

  1. Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:  marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:14)

You are of value to God.

II.      Walk in the Recognition of Who You Are in Christ

Walking in Victory

Approach Life issues with a Conquering Attitude

“Yet amid all these things, we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

“For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.”

(I John 5:4-5)

“And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death.” (Revelation 12:11)

Confess Words of Victory not words of Defeat

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it.” (Proverbs 18:21)

Examples of words of defeat are:  Suppose someone asks you how are you doing today?  You respond saying “I’m hanging in there.”  These words are “words of defeat” because hanging implies that you are hanging onto life by a thread, and you can fall at any time.  You have no foundation and you lack strength because you have no source of strength.

So, the next time someone asks how you are doing, respond with words of victory and power that line up with the Word of God.  (For example, I am blessed and highly favored by God).

(Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 8:29-30)

III.    Depend on God’s Word for Encouragement

  1. God can deliver you out of all things

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore, will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness – trusts and relies n Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no never].  He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.  With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16)

“Wait and hope for and expect the Lord, be brave and of good courage, and let your heart be s tout and enduring.  Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.” (Psalms 27:14)

  1. Requirement of waiting

“But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power: they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to sun], they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” (Isaiah 40:31)

  1. God is your source of strength

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)

“. . . the joy of the Lord is your strength”.  (Nehemiah 8:10)

Dispell the Doubt

July 21, 2017

Many people think that success is measured by the size house they have, the amount of clothes they have and the amount of money they have in the bank.  However, this is not true.  Success is using your God-given gifts for the glory of God.  But, you first have to discover your God-given gifts.

Steps to Achieving Success are:

Humble yourself (surrender your mind, body, and spirit to God).

Be patient (waiting and expecting God to lead and guide you).

Endure trials and tribulations.

Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.  Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.  But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing(James 1:2-4)

Seek God by using the R-S-M Method

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it.  For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. (Joshua 1:8)

But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. (Matthew  6:33)

Walk in the purposes of God, constantly obeying God’s leading and direction – moving forward and moving onward toward completion.

As you walk  in your God-given purpose, you will experience:

  • Divine strength
  • Divine ability
  • Divine Love, peace, and joy
  • Divine completion
  • Divine victory

SEEKING THE FACE OF GOD

When we seek God’s Face, we behold beauty and glory,

which takes us beyond the tallest building story.

Walking, running, and yielding toward God’s way

on the straight and narrow path we will stay.

A path full of love, joy, peace, and blessings,

if we are faithful to trust God through our testings.

O God, faithful and true,

thanks for leading and guiding us always to you.

The Branch

May 5, 2017

I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser.  Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit (stops bearing) He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit.

You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word, which I have given you.  Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you.  [Live in Me, and I will live in you.]  Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.  I am the Vine; you are branches.  Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit.  However, apart from Me you can do nothing. (John 15:1-5)

The branch that is not connected to its source of nourishment withers and dies.  It is essential for the branch to remain connected to the source.  That source is God – Jesus – The Word.

“If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.” (John 15:6)

We must remain (abide) connected to The Word (Jesus Christ) in order to continue growing spiritually and prospering.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (III John 2)

God wants us to prosper and be in health, even as our soul (mind and emotions) prosper.  The soul can’t prosper unless it is transformed.  Transformed by The Word.

“Do not be conformed to this world (fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs), but be transformed (changed) by the entire renewal of your mind (by its new ideals and its new attitude), so that you may prove (for yourselves) what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of god, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect (in His sight for you).” (Romans 12:2)

Our mind must be continually transformed by Living Waters.  We can’t physically live without water, and we can’t spiritually live without The Word.

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.  For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” (Proverbs 4:20-22)

There are many people walking around who are physically alive, but spiritually dead because there is no Word in them No Jesus in them.  Jesus is the source of spiritual life.  We may eat, drink and be merry (engage in worldly pleasures) and think we are living the life. That is, to party, drink alcoholic beverages, do drugs, have premarital sex, play sports till the sun goes down, and not have Jesus in our life (heart and mind); not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ the Messiah – The Anointed One.

But we aren’t “living the life” because we don’t have Jesus (the source of life) inside of our heart and mind.  So we are really living DEATH.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life (his blessed life in the kingdom of God)?  Or what would a man give as an exchange for his (blessed) life (in the kingdom of God)? (Matthew 16:26)

The most important relationship in our life is the one we have with Jesus.   Not our relationship with our mother, father, or brother.

” . . . truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (I John 3)

“He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me:  and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.   And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:37-38)

STAY CONNECTED

Stay connected to Jesus Christ even when the winds fall and the valleys run deep.

When it seems like all you need is sleep.

When it seems there is no way out.

Trust in Jesus, He is the truth and the way without a doubt.

He will shape and mold you all the way through.

Just don’t give up when you are feeling blue.

The trials and tribulations we experience are designed to strengthen our faith and trust in Jesus (the Holy One).

I challenge you to be a Branch that Remains Connected to the Vine – Jesus Christ.

The Most Powerful Weapon

May 22, 2016

II Corinthian 10:4 says:  “For the weapons of our warfare are not physical but they are mighty before and for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds.”

God has given us weapons that are to be used to overcome the devil and his strategies.  However, we must know what they are and how to use them.

In Ephesians 6:11-13, it says: “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

God has given us weapons that are not physical, but spiritual because the devil is a spirit (spirit of darkness, deception, and wickedness).  His goals are to:

1.             Steal the truth

2.             Kill one’s faith in the Word of God

3.             Destroy one spiritually

In order for the spiritual weapons God has given us to work, you must do what the Word of God says in Ephesians 6:11-13.  “Put on God’s whole armor” so that you will be able to successfully stand up against the strategies of deceits of the devil.

It is important to put on God’s complete armor, and not just part of it.  Some people may have on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, feet shod with the gospel of peace, but not have the shield of faith (quenches the flaming missiles of the wicked), or the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God in their heart).  Consequently, they are not properly and 100% armed (prepared to fight and overcome the devil victoriously).  This is why the devil can defeat them.  The Word of God says that in Habbakuk 2:4, “The just shall live by faith . . .”

Some people may have on all pieces of the armor of God except “praying at all times”.  Again, they are not completely and 100% armed to be a winner over the strategies and deceits of the devil.  ALL PIECES OF THE SPIRITUAL ARMOR ARE CRITICAL IN DEFENDING AND OVERCOMING THE DEVIL, so that you can triumph (be victorious).

When you are not complete and 100% armed with God ‘s spiritual armor, you leave an opening for the devil to come in and attack.  For example, if you don’t have the “shield of faith”, then the devil is using worry and doubt to defeat you.  Before, when you needed money to pay your electric bill, you trusted in God to supply the money.  But now that the economy has slowed down, and your cashflow has decreased, you are worried about how you are going to pay your bills.

But you can defeat worry and doubt by developing faith in the Word of God. This is achieved by using the R-Reading, S-Studying, and M-Meditating method.  This will increase your knowledge and understanding of the Word of God.   Hosea 4:6 says “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge . . .”

God wants you to keep growing in the knowledge of God’s Word (Truth) and as you do, you will grow in faith.  So be sure that you have on the Whole Armor of God, and not just pieces of it.  Then and only then will you triumph (be victorious) and grow in WISDOM = Knowing + Understanding the Word + Applying the Word of God.
