Stand Against All Odds

February 23, 2018

“Put on God’s whole armor (the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against all the strategies and the deceits of the devil.”  (Ephesians 6:11)

The Greek word for “stand” is Steko, which means to persevere. Persevere means to persist in an idea, task, or purpose despite obstacles.

In order to stand against the strategies and deception of the enemy (satan), you must submit (obey) the Word of God. The Word of God says in James 4:7, “Submit to God and resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When you submit to God, you automatically resist the devil.   It’s like walking in a room of darkness and then turning on the light – the minute you turn on the light, all of the darkness disappears.

Know the devices that satan uses to steal, kill, and destroy you. Some of his devices are as follows:

*      Lure you into disobeying God’s Word. For example, in  (Ephesians 5:11) it says “what fellowship hath darkness with light. Therefore, you should not develop friendly relationships; companionship with the ungodly (unbelievers of Christ) because they will influence you to do things that are wrong in the sight of God, such as gossiping, lying, and stealing.

*       Cause you to lust after the flesh – which causes you to disobey God.  For example, you know that fornication is sin, but you allow a man to seduce you and influence you to commit fornication.

*       Cause you to invite the enemy into your life. (For example, seeking advice from a nonbeliever. In Psalm 1:1, it says blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, there plans and purposes] nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.   When you follow the advice of the unbeleiver, you are following advice that is not based on the Word of God (truth) and is therefore not founded on wisdom. When you don’t exercise wisdom in your life, you are basing your thoughts and actions on foolishness.

(Ephesians 5:8-11) says “For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. For the fruit of the Light or the Spirit consists in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life. And try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him].”

(I John 1:5) says “. . . God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way].”

As a Christian, you are an Ambassador for Jesus Christ. Therefore, you must represent Jesus Christ in your thoughts, words, and actions. This can only be achieved by the Holy Spirit, leading and guiding you to obey God’s Word.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Truth, and will lead and guide you unto all truth.

“But when He, the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].” (John 16:13)

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

In order to stand against the devil, you must grow spiritually, which requires reading, studying, and meditating on the Word of God. You will have to make time to do this, and as you do, you will grow in knowledge and understanding of the Word of God, and develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

Overcoming Oppression

August 5, 2013

The Bruised Reed

Many times in life we experience pain due to rejection and mistreatment by others.  This bruises our emotions and makes us fee less valuable or  valueless.  However, we must remember that Jesus Christ is our strength, healer, and restorer.  But we must put all of our trust in Jesus Christ.  He will see you through.  You must establish yourself in righteousness (rightness, in conformity with God’s will and order).  Then and only then will you be far from oppression and destruction.  Far from the very thought of oppression and destruction.

 Definition of Oppression

Oppression is anything or anybody that holds you back from accepting and committing your life to Jesus Christ.  It’s goal is for you to fall into the grave where there is a bottomless pit.

It works through people who appear to be helping you increase and prosper, but through manipulation, lying, and deception they guide you to the bottomless pit.  A bottomless pit of torment and destruction that feeds on wickedness.  The devices of wickedness include constant accusation of negative past behavior, and subjection of you to its every request.

Soloman in Ecclesiastes 4:1 says “So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun:  and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of there oppressors there was power, but they had no comforter.”

 How to Overcome Oppression

A.   Comfort is Imperative

Comfort is essential in overcoming because it soothes the discomfort associated with oppression. This discomfort may be in the form of pain, stress, low self-esteem, and loneliness.

Crying normally accompanies oppression.  When you cry in your secret chambers, the oppression remains, but when you cry to God, he will hear your cry and heal you.  Jesus Christ is the Healer (John14:26).  The healing process is made up of two parts – comfort and restoration.  Jesus Christ soothes the wounds (comforts) and makes you whole (restores).  (Acts 10:38)

Jesus Christ heals all who are oppressed because of the power God has given Him.  You see, God is the source for Jesus’ ability and authority to perform these actions.

Walking in Victory “That You Have Overcome

Victory means deliverance, help, safety, and triumph.

Triumph means to overcome, conquer, joyful, and rejoice.

Victory is a sign that you have overcome conditions and circumstances through dependence on Jesus Christ, which is the only way you can experience victory.  When one has overcome a negative condition or circumstance, his natural response is to rejoice because he is no longer pinned under or bound by the condition or circumstance.  Therefore, he becomes free to experience joy which yields rejoicing = triumph = victory.

“. . .in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him (Jesus Christ) that loves us.”  (Romans 8:37)

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:  and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God.” (I John 5:4-5)

And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus Christ), and by the word of their testimony . . .” (Revelation 12:11)

The only way to BREAKTHROUGH and be delivered from oppression is to:

Believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  (Romans 10:9-11)

  1. Know that you have all power and authority over the oppressor (Satan).  (Luke 10:19, Romans 8:37)
  2. Ask the Lord to place a shield of protection around you.

(Psalm 61:2-3, Psalm 91:3-4)

  1. Bind the devil in the name of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 16:19)
  2. Speak the Word of God for it is a two-edged sword.  (Revelation 12:11)
